Casual. More my opinion than, say, most reviewers.
Honest and fun-filled! The price is so high because I'm a bit too honest and I need the GP's for a Anti-Bullying group. Don't want to pay that much but want my review? Shoot me an email with the item with 10 GP's.
My review style is personal, structured, and emotionally driven. I aim to balance honest praise with thoughtful, constructive critique, always offering suggestions that help strengthen the work. I try to keep my tone respectful and supportive because I believe feedback should encourage, not discourage. My goal is to help writers grow, not just improve one piece.
Minimalist. Focus on technical. I also look at how a work would fit into the traditional publishing landscape. I don't use a template. Warning: I am Australian, and so cultural differences may apply.
I like to say how I relate to an item. Spelling and grammar are less important.
My approach is balanced and constructive. I begin by highlighting what works well in a piece—what captured my attention, moved me, or felt particularly well written. When needed, I provide suggestions for improvement, which may include identifying spelling or punctuation issues, or noting where adjustments could improve rhythm and readability. I sometimes comment on passages that might be unclear or seem out of place, always with the intent of helping the author strengthen their expression and flow. For me, the heart of good writing lies in its emotional resonance. I often ask, “Did you feel it?” or “How did it make you feel?”—not because the writer instructed the reader to feel a certain way, but because the words themselves created a genuine emotional response.
Brutally honest, but fair. I will give my impressions of the main points: Plot, character, setting, dialog. Then I will get into grammar, spelling, and typos. I will tell you what works, and what doesn't. As far as the star ratings go, I don't rely on them too much, but use them as a measure of an item's relative merit. Take it for what it's worth. Bottom line, my goal is to help the author improve their work.
I attempt a well-rounded review where I look at the item from a writer's and reader's perspective. I'll tell you what I liked and what I think could be strengthened. I like to think I'm a courteous and helpful reviewer.
| I will give the kind of review that I wish people gave me: rather detailed with emphasis on areas that need growth and areas that are pretty good already. And I'll review pretty much anything, whether a poem or an entire novel or anything in between. Admittedly, though, I do tend to be absent-minded, so it does happen that you might have to resend me the review request, but I promise I'll get around to it eventually.
Alternatively, if you ask, I can give you a scathing review with no fluff, if that is what you desire. However, in general, I'll give a polite, padded review.
If you're looking for a reviewer for your novel, I am open to doing chapter by chapter reviews. If that's what you want, please email me. |
I enjoy reviewing and try to be as honest as possible. I look for specific things such as technical merit, flow and lyrical quality in poems, creativity, tone, and mood. Though I can be a tough critic, I strive to encourage writers to grow and challenge themselves. I feel that it is through constructive criticism that we grow as writers. I strive to give the writer feedback on the overall impact of the piece. I am the host and judge of the "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest"
In a single word, thorough. I will turn your piece upside down, shake the change out of its pockets and look at even the most minute details. I can be technical but will do so when emphasizing a larger point about the piece as a whole.
I'm honest but constructive. I'll explain why I give the number of stars I give and what you could do to improve that. I do fix grammar as well as look at style, emotional triggers, characters, and other things like that. I'll get back to you with a full review in a couple of days or so after the request, depending on the length of the item.
My opinion will rely heavily on content, character and story arc, and reflect anything that catches my eye...purely from a readers standpoint.
I try to be honest and positive. My Christian faith is an important background factor. I hate rating low but have a system that determines how I grade.
|
I give constructive criticism of your work. I will be very honest but polite. When I read a story I ask myself if this is something I would pay to read in a magazine or an online venue. If it is, I will tell you why, if not I will tell you why it's not. Please do not send me rough drafts. If it is not a finished copy, then I don't want to see it because the errors tend to be too distracting from the actual story.
When I review something, I look for grammar and it's content. I can say what you miss or what you need.
I’m not a technical reviewer but I will sometimes make suggestions or recommendations for improvements. I typically judge by the content of the piece.
